The quick choice

• Aubigny-sur-Nère works well for a first visit: a walkable old centre, Franco-Scottish heritage and a useful position for La Verrerie, Oizon and several historic villages.
• Nançay makes sense when the Pôle des Étoiles, Galerie Capazza and forest landscape sit at the centre of your trip.
• Argent-sur-Sauldre puts the canal, Musée des Métiers d’Antan and Étang du Puits closer.
• A rural address may provide more quiet, but check driving time, dinner options and mobile coverage before arrival.

Small-looking map distances can hide detours on minor roads. Pin your two priority visits, the likely finishing time and your dinner plan. This prevents an appealing room from creating an unnecessary cross-region drive every morning and evening.

Staying in Aubigny-sur-Nère

Aubigny is the simplest base for combining an evening on foot in the historic centre with day trips in different directions. Before booking, distinguish a genuinely walkable address from accommodation using the Aubigny name for a wider area. A peripheral property can be ideal with a car and inconvenient if you want to go out again after dinner.

If your visit coincides with the Franco-Scottish festival or another major event, check the municipal website for dates and traffic measures first. Availability, rates and minimum stays can change around these periods; an old article is not enough evidence.

Staying in Nançay

Nançay turns an astronomy visit into a more relaxed stay and suits a route focused on the south-west of the territory. Check precisely where the property lies. In a forest setting, a few extra kilometres may change dinner access or the return from a timed evening session.

Confirm the Pôle des Étoiles programme before building a night around that single activity. Public astronomy visits are organised through the visitor attraction; the research station is not a site for unrestricted entry.

Staying in Argent-sur-Sauldre or near Étang du Puits

Argent is useful for a water-and-canal route including Blancafort and the eastern side of the territory. If a property says it is “near the lake”, ask which shore it is on and calculate the actual road journey to the access point you intend to use. A short straight-line distance does not guarantee a direct route.

Waterside activities are seasonal. Check bathing quality, supervision and facility operation separately. Nearby accommodation does not guarantee any of them.
