Fishing in Sauldre and Sologne: permits, rules and waters

Establish the right to fish first

The Cher fishing federation is the starting source, not a tourism map or a photograph of a bank. Its current water directory includes waters around Aubigny-sur-Nère, Brinon-sur-Sauldre, Ivoy-le-Pré, Ménétréol-sur-Sauldre, Oizon, Ennordres and Étang du Puits. Inclusion does not guarantee access to every bank, every method or year-round fishing.

For each outing, record the exact lake or river section, its category, the AAPPMA or manager and the fishery limits. Then identify the permit required. The federation directs anglers to cartedepeche.fr and maintains a current list of local permit sellers. A departmental or reciprocal card does not create access to private water, a municipally regulated lake or a bank where passage is not permitted.

Check rules for the exact date

Read the federation’s published opening periods shortly before travelling. Water category, target species and method can lead to different dates. Also check capture sizes, limits, rod numbers, bait rules, legal times and local provisions. Never transfer the rules from a nearby water.

Night fishing is not an automatic extension of daytime access. If the federation authorises one defined section, identify its present boundaries and signage. Likewise, a boat, float tube or bait boat is permitted only where the site rules say so explicitly. A missing sign is not permission.

Reserves and Étang du Puits

The federation’s prohibited-fishing and reserve page explains restrictions near structures and lists reserves. It currently identifies several protected sectors at Étang du Puits and warns that the list is not exhaustive because further orders may be made during the year. Read the live version, inspect signs and ask the federation or AAPPMA when uncertain.

The lake lies near a departmental boundary and combines recreation, nature and hydraulic structures. Park only in an authorised place, approach by a public access and never cross a fence or reed bed to reach a peg. A clear bank on satellite imagery can be private, ecologically sensitive or inside a reserve.

Equipment, safety and water conditions

Carry the fishing card and any required evidence, plus an offline copy of the rules. Bring only equipment compatible with the confirmed fishery. A landing net, suitable unhooking tool, rubbish bag, water and gripping footwear reduce handling and risk. Ask about local release, retention and bait rules; promise neither a species nor a catch.

Banks may be slippery, undercut or flooded. Keep away from spillways, sluices and locks, supervise children and leave when a storm approaches. Heat, low oxygen, work, pollution or fire risk can produce temporary restrictions. A theoretical entitlement never overrides a safety closure.

Make the outing responsible

Minimise noise, lighting and trampling. Do not cut vegetation to manufacture a peg, and remove line, hooks and packaging. If a place is occupied or unsafe at the present water level, select another officially published sector.

A short session can pair with Argent-sur-Sauldre or an informed look at the Sauldre Canal. Secure all tackle while visiting and never turn a heritage stop into an improvised fishing spot. The most useful preparation is knowing precisely where permission begins and ends.
